Summerfield Farm is located on 60 secluded, rolling acres of farmland in Lothian, Maryland. We are a small, privately owned and owner-operated facility. Our focus is on providing a clean, safe, relaxed, supportive environment where horses and their families can enjoy one another, and trust that they are receiving the best possible care.
Our facilities feature:
A 20-stall barn with spacious, airy, 12'x12' matted stalls. 12 stalls have large dutch doors and open onto stone-dust paddocks. All stalls feature hay racks, water buckets, corner feeders, saddle racks, blanket bars and bridle racks.
The barn also includes a large, locked, boarder tack room, feed room, office, storage loft and wash rack with hot/cold water and heat lamps. A barn-wide fly-spray system provides pest control during warm weather.
Our new indoor arena is 80'x185' with excellent new Equi-fiber footing and a full course of hunter-style jumps. The indoor has LED lighting, a full ceiling and sidelights. In the summer, 4 large doors and 5 large windows let in the breeze. Family and friends can enjoy the view from 2 large elevated seating areas. A watering system keeps the footing soft and dust-free.
The outdoor riding ring is 125'x250', also with stonedust and sand footing, excellent drainage and another full course of hunter-style jumps. The outdoor ring is fully fenced with new vinyl Ramm fencing. A large elevated viewing deck provides shade and a great vantage point for watching riders in the ring, or relaxing after your ride, Both the indoor arena and the outdoor riding ring are just steps away from the barn.
Our horses are turned out in huge pastures that also feature vinyl Ramm fencing, as well as heated, automatic waterers. Horses are in small groups of 3-5, based on gender and temperament. We also offer private paddocks and have 2 stone-dust dry lots for lay-ups and those with diet restrictions. During the winter months, our horses have free choice hay in the pastures; round bales are elevated off of the ground and protected from the weather with Hay Huts.
Our perimeter fencing ensures that our horses are safe from accidents and escapes. Gates open during the daytime to allow access to our large perimeter trail and our huge, open galloping field. We anticipate adding cross country jumps this fall to add a little variety to our horses' schooling experience.
Our professional full-time farm manager/caretaker lives on the property. Summerfield Farm is conveniently located just minutes from the Prince George's Equestrian Center, with easy access to both Route 4 (and Washington, D.C.) and Route 2 (and Annapolis).
